Quake 4 Book Site

I started the new website for the Quake 4 Mods for Dummies book. There isn’t any information or graphics in place as of yet, but there will be. I am waiting on some official graphics from the publisher before I complete the look of the site. Afterwards, information will start being posted. The site will be ready for the launch of the book.

Remember, I don’t want to give away the contents of the book before it’s been released. ;)

Skypecasts

What a cool concept. Some companies are putting together options that allow for skype conferencing between 100 people. One such company is Vapps. There are moderators and participants which means that the channel won’t be flooded with chatter.

Skype currently only allows for up to 5 participants in a conference call. The only way around this is to have an Intel Dual Core processor and then you can have double the participants. I have an AMD dual core… but that’s apparently not good enough for them. lol. For a while I thought it might be possible to daisy chain the calls (I invite 3 and someone else invites the rest like a chain of conference calls), but that doesn’t work.
Anyway, while the skypecast services are still free, I am going to give it shot this weekend. There are 6 of us that want to join a conference call and this was the only solution I could come up with.

SPAM, to call, to lol

I got a piece of SPAM today regarding some broadcast email company. I decided to call them and tell them how much I appreciate getting SPAM in their name. It was actually kinda funny to hear the guy on the other end get all defensive over my call. He even told me to “deal with it” thereby admitting that they are SPAMMING on purpose.
I encourage you all to have the same fun that I was able to have. Here’s how it’s done:

  • Get Skype to make your call. If you use this method, your caller id number will be 000-012-3456 so you are quite anonymous.
  • Call this number: +1 206 223 1270 ext 10 for sales. hey, it’s gotta have something to do with their sales department if I am getting SPAM.
  • Then say whatever you want to get off your chest for the day.

That’s it. And… so you know who it is that you are calling, read on…

PS. If anyone knows where I can report SPAM, let me know. I forgot. (more…)

Code Monkey

Gotta say I like this song by Jonathon Coulton titled “Code Monkey“. I’ve heard it a couple times on Adam Curry’s podcast, The Daily Source Code. I decided to pick it up for more frequent playing in my music collection. If you do alot of coding, you might like this tune too.

Skype.. free calls for a year

If you are in the US or Canada, you can now use Skype to make FREE phone calls to anyone else in the US or Canada. Now, I don’t just mean free skype to skype calls. I mean free skype to landline calls. That’s rockin’.

I use skype for conference calling. Specifically, it’s great for the MODSonair podcast. A group of us can get together and chat while recording the results. You can also get a phone number for your Skype account so landlines can call you back. I haven’t found a practical use for this in the home.. but I have gotten a couple of phone numbers for MODSonair for fans to call and leave messages for the show.

Time for a change

It’s time for some updating over here at foyleman.com. I love the CMS that I was using before, but it’s much more than I need. I figure all that I need here is a blog. Thus… Wordpress is now installed. I ported over all the original new posts.

Yeah, no forums. But hey, this site didn’t need forums. Instead, you can now register and post comments.

I’ll get to updating the theme of the site eventually. For now, the default is working just fine. ;)

Welcome To The New Site

This site is current under construction. I’ll be back with updates shortly.

Adobe PDF Reader, Why Are You So Slow?

Ever since I installed Adobe PDF Reader version 6.0, I have dreaded opening any PDF files because I know it will take ages for the program to load. Pile on top of that the chance that my browser will crash if I open the PDF from a web page, and I am quite frustrated with this thing.

Finally, I have found a solution to this problem and it doesn’t involve getting in touch with Adobe nor does it involve arsen. Check out this free program I found.

It’s time for introductions

Welcome to the foyleman.com website. You may notice that things are just getting underway around here and it will be another week before it picks up. I have alot of recoding to do to get everything running just right. Once it is, you may want to stop by for cool downloads and tips and tricks that I plan on posting as they come up.

Who am I? Many of you may already know me as foyleman - the guy who teaches others how to make cool game levels on MODSonline.com. Although I am not much of a game programmer, I do know alot about php and web development. I even do web programming as one of my occupations at Tresware.com. I hope to bring you more on that.

Gmail Drive => Gmail

You can turn your GMail account into an online 1Gb Gmail Drive. You wanna backup some files before heading to work or school.. this is perfect. The only problem I saw was that you are limited to uploading in 10Mb file sizes.

GMail Drive is a Shell Namespace Extension that creates a virtual filesystem
around your Google GMail account, allowing you to use GMail as a storage
medium.

GMail Drive creates a virtual filesystem on top of your Google GMail account and
enables you to save and retrieve files stored on your GMail account directly from inside
Windows Explorer.
GMail Drive literally adds a new drive to your computer under the My Computer
folder, where you can create new folders, copy and drag’n'drop files to.
