You can turn your GMail account into an online 1Gb Gmail Drive. You wanna backup some files before heading to work or school.. this is perfect. The only problem I saw was that you are limited to uploading in 10Mb file sizes.

GMail Drive is a Shell Namespace Extension that creates a virtual filesystem
around your Google GMail account, allowing you to use GMail as a storage
medium.

GMail Drive creates a virtual filesystem on top of your Google GMail account and
enables you to save and retrieve files stored on your GMail account directly from inside
Windows Explorer.
GMail Drive literally adds a new drive to your computer under the My Computer
folder, where you can create new folders, copy and drag’n'drop files to.

Exciting news that Red Hat Inc. has just appointed former Sun Microsystems VP Karen Tegan Padir as VP of a new desktop department for Red Hat. They want to try and develop a competing desktop environment to go head to head with Microsoft.

This is exciting because while Linux has been known to be a competing operating system, there has been little direct competition to the everyday user. Sure, Lindows is out there, but Red Hat has the muscle to put together something that could shake the world. I look forward to the battle.

There are rumors floating around that the new Google based GBrowser which is under development may be based on the popular FireFox browser. If you didn’t already hear… Google is working on their own browser which was stubbled upon a couple of months ago when people found gbrowser.com in the whois queries and did some more follow-up work.

This step that Google is taking will surely mean alot of changes are coming to the world of computing. If it all works out, FireFox will take a huge step forward in competing with IE. Then, who knows how much foothold will be lost by Microsoft in the battle of owning everyones computing environment.

Yes, I am still coding away at the backend of this site. It’s amazing how many small things I come by that need upgrading. The snowball just keeps on growing as it goes down the hill. lol.

To make matters worse, I got into the beta testing for EverQuest II. I used to be an RPG-aholic and had to give it up cold turkey a number of years ago. At least being on the beta team I know there is an end in sight… when the beta is over, they will ask me for money to keep playing and that I don’t think is going to work into my budget. ha.

How much longer before the downloads section is ready? Well, once I figure out how to handle program licensing, everything will fall into place. Until then, feel free to ask me whatever in the forums.

Have you checked out this new Eminem political video? This quicktime video I could see being pulled off the internet. It’s pretty racy. A portinon of the video director’s note:

The goal was to make a video that inspired young people to vote because
they too often disregard it as a powerless exercise. To show them that
political decisions do impact their daily lives and that voting is the
most powerful act we all have to voice our opinion and effect change.
And to educate and reiterate the point that whether or not people want
to accept it, there are forces in play that attempt to suppress the
youth and minority vote.

Scientists from the University of Florida have successfully built a brain that can fly a plane using brain cells from a rat. What they did was take these brain cells, place it in a petri dish, distribute about 60 electrodes over these neurons, and properly stimulate them to teach them right from wrong. Within about 15 minutes, these cells could keep a simulated high performance aircraft on route much like an auto-pilot.

I don’t see benefits for mankind from the understanding of how a brain functions. I see my next computer processor made from living tissue. I see my next bio-drive equal to a few terabytes of  storage.

I used to LOVE the game ZORK back when I was a kid. I played that game 10 or 20 times making my own maps and figuring out different ways of solving the game. I couldn’t believe it when I found a download for it recently. I had to post it here to spread the fun.

Grab the set from the downloads section. It works with Windows.

I received an interesting letter today from the IGDA (International Game Developers Association) Board of Directors. It talks of the horrible working conditions developers are forced to face in the work place and how we need to work together to put this to an end.

I have heard rumors about horrible working conditions. Developers are told to pull over-nighters and work weeks without a break. All this for pretty low pay because there is always another kid out there who can do their job for the same low pay.

Read the entire story below to see the letter I received and to find out how to help out. Continue reading »
