Gaming goodness.. and badness

I finished playing Halo 2 again this weekend. It’s a fun game to play co-op. However, I forgot how awful the ending of this game was. You’re in the middle of a mission, a cut scene starts up and then the credits are rolling. Bad ending can ruin the fun that lead up to the end.

So, now I need another game to play. I’ve been reading a lot of good reviews about Lego Star Wars II and decided to order it. Hopefully, this weekend I’ll be able to play it. There is a PC demo available at the official site, but I want to play it on the XBox 360 in co-op.
A couple weeks ago, the demo for the next FEAR game was released. I gotta say, these developers know how to make a good demo and a great game. They have me on the edge of my seat waiting on its release.

Update Lag

I would have updated the blog sooner, but what is there to write about? Let’s see…

I thought that I could finally relax and take it easy after non-stop writing of my latest book. Turns out I have a lot of work backed up that I know get to contend with. I’ve been updating the MODSonline.com website with such things as a better uploader, affiliate store and many other behind-the-curtain fixes.

I actually started playing some games again. I think it’s been about year since I let myself enjoy playing a game. So now I am replaying Halo 2 on the Xbox 360 in co-op for about 1.5 hours every other day. It’s nice to play a game rather than just right about it or anylize it. Oh, I also ordered a copy of Lego Star Wars II so we’ll see what that’s like.

A friend called me today (Eddie) and told me to keep an eye on a game called Mass Effect. He’s a fan of RPG games and he knows that I was also once a huge fan. So, he keeps me in the loop sometimes with what’s going on with RPGs (and console games). This game is looking good and if it come with co-op playability, I am 100% on board. The game looks a little drawn out with character interaction, but I think it might be fun if I had someone to play it with.

My game company is officially started (Mission Critical Studios) and we’ve hired an artist to work on the concept art. So far, the art is looking fantastic. I haven’t had much time to work on game mechanics, but I have been fooling with different compilers and editors that work well with our game engine of choice. The game will get started soon, it’s just there is a bunch of other jobs that must take precidence (hey, this is a business and one thing at a time).

OK. Time to play some more Halo. hehe.

Relax? Oh yeah, that’s what it’s like.

This past Friday I submitted the last pages of my first draft for the Half-Life 2 Mods For Dummies book. That means I can devote some time to my life and I didn’t realize how long it’s been. The last time I stopped to relax was for 5 days last Christmas. It’s been a long time.

This weekend I slept in a little (for me that means getting up at 8am instead of 5:30am). Then I cut down some old trees and tidied up the yard. I know what you are think, “That just sounds like more work.” Well, it might be work, but it’s also relaxing for me. It’s the chance to do things without pressure and also a chance to see the sun.

Next weekend, I expect to be back at work. I’ll either be onto a new project or I’ll be working on the final edits for the book I just drafted. What new project? Although I have a number of them lined up on a pad around here somewhere, I think it’ll be something mentioned in my last post. I’ll let you guess from there.
