I’ve had enough. It’s upgrade time.
That’s it. I purchased the parts to assemble a new computer.
This past weekend I’ve played both Battlefield 2142 and the new STALKER beta. In both cases, I had issues getting my computer to handle the games without trouble.
In the case of Battlefield 2142, there is a memory leak with that game on my computer. There is no way I can play through an entire round without lagging out and crashing my computer. It’s so frustrating to have to reboot every 20 minutes while playing that game. Perhaps this could be solved with a reformat of the drives, but that won’t solve the slow loading times. Yup, I tested the slow loading issue on an older computer of mine. That older computer ran faster than this one. I think this is an issue of trying to run a game on a single, slower core of a dual core processor.
In the case of STALKER, I couldn’t play the game without adjust all the video settings to their lowest possible settings. If this is what I can expect of all games coming out this year, then I really need to upgrade to get past all this trouble.

Looks like a nice set-up there. I am still waiting on getting 2142 for the time being. Partly because I have no money after building my last system. lol.
Luckily enough you can buy parts for sites like newegg and get a good price. I could have saved loads if they would ship to me. Oh well. I’m looking forward to the blog entitled “OMG MY NEW SYSTEM OWNS” after you build it.

Everything but the motherboard has been shipped. The motherboard has been back-ordered and they tell me it could be 3 weeks before I can get it. So, I decided to order it from somewhere else. The cost is the same.
Where do I order from?
Newegg is a great company, but they have a location in my state. This means I would have to pay 7% sales tax on everything I order. There are other places I can order from that don’t charge me sales tax.
I prefer to get my stuff from TigerDirect. They have been good to me for the past few years.
My second choice is ZipZoomFly. Good service too, just the opposite side of the country so shipping takes a couple days longer.

Wow. Go from having to wait 7-21 days for the motherboard to having it arrive today. I’ll be up and running tomorrow. Sweet.
