So I am standing in the dining room talking with my wife when I hear what sounds like the dog peeing. That’s a sound you just can’t forget after having a puppy that does it regularly.. of course that was a few years ago.

Anyway, I look for the dog and realize that he is outside. So what is this sound of water streaming on the floor? Why it’s the air conditioner which resides in the attic. Water is pouring in through the intake vent in the ceiling.

I crawl into the hot attic to see what’s wrong and find that the condensation from the machine is overflowing. Normally, this excess water would get caught by a back-up pan. But that didn’t work too well either, so instead it’s pouring onto my ceiling. The good part of all this is that the water had someplace to go… out of the ceiling and onto me floor. If the water had gotten stuck up there, I’d be writing about how I had to replace the ceiling this weekend.

Turns out the piping that drains the excess condensation was plugged. Just enough to overflow onto the secondary drip pan. The drip pan was resting on the insulation which compressed from the weight of the water only on one corner. Thus the water there flowed out onto the ceiling.

Still, with all these little things, I’m still glad I own a house. I don’t have to call someone else to fix what goes wrong and hope they come to fix it.

The new grass appears to be growing quickly and nicely. I mowed the new grass for the first time yesterday and it’s not dead today. That was my first sign of trouble with the last batch of grass I planted.

So today I plan to rip half of it up. Why? Not to be cruel of course. But half the yard still consists of weeds. Without those weeds, I would have had no green at all over these past years. So not that I know the new grass will grow, I will kill all the weeds I can and plant more grass.

Oh I can’t wait to see the results already.

So I figured something out yesterday.

As many of you know, I am working very hard to grow grass in my yard. So far, it’s been pretty successful. As long as I water the yard non-stop daily, I have new grass seed taking root and sprouting up daily. I’ve been amazed at the value of watering the yard.

Heck, before this, I used to mow my lawn once a month at most. Now I have to mow it every 5 or 6 days. That’s where the problem comes in. I don’t mind mowing the grass, but only if it helps the yard and doesn’t kill it cause issues.
As I mow the law, I have to walk across it with the mower. If I step to firmly, the grass gets squished. Perhaps in some cases, the wheels on the mower do the damage. Or if the grass cutting clump, that’s another dead spot. It turns out that I am not alone with this problem.

I spoke with a friend yesterday who has the same problem. It turns out that we are using the same grass seed. This Scotts general purpose landscapers seed is the culprit.

That’s it… I am going to head over to a real grass seed store and get myself some hardy Kentucky Blue grass.
